Full Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Asset Strategy Manager to analyse and assess some of TfL's most important asset challenges. We ensure the c.£1bn of investment we put into our assets every year is being done in a planned, conscious, and informed way. We operate flexibly, through a highly capable and supportive team that can turn their collective 'hand' to challenges and are known for producing high quality outputs.

This advert is specifically for an Assistant Asset Strategy Manager role within the Asset Management Capability Team.

This team focuses on the development and implementation of best practice asset management. We work closely with the other teams within TfL Asset Strategy to ensure that they have the right support, tools, information and structure to undertake consistent analysis on the long-term approach to our complex asset base.

We also work with multiple teams across TfL to promote best practice seen both in TfL and in other organisations so that we can work towards achieving certification against the international standard for good practice asset management - ISO 55001 certification. This demonstrates we have a mature approach to asset management.

The work in our team is varied, exciting and high profile; your work could include identifying gaps in our activities that are to be addressed, ensuring consistency across our asset groups in developing our strategic asset management plan, or planning future improvements to our systems and processes.
You'll need to bring drive and an ability to understand and plan the work required to complete tasks. You'll want to make things better, be comfortable working at pace and confident working with and involving stakeholders in decision making. In doing so we will support you and be willing to provide guidance as required.,

  • Support the development of asset strategies and maturity assessments, considering a wide range of factors including cost, risk, performance and sustainability

  • Support the introduction of best practice governance for asset management

  • Support the delivery of stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation to identify improvement activities

  • Experience in sharepoint and good organisational skills beneficial

  • Support the development of business plans, asset strategies and asset plans (short and long term

  • Work with stakeholders to increase their understanding and knowledge of good practice asset management

  • Carry out high quality asset data analysis (e.g. cost, condition, risk) to provide material for presentations, reports and strategies that support and inform conclusions and recommendations

  • Support the tracking and completion of identified improvement activities to advance asset management maturity across TfL

  • Support the continuous improvement of asset management processes and approaches

    Good written, verbal and presentation skills

  • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively across teams as required

  • Proactive and inquisitive with good stakeholder management skills

  • Able to support multiple workstreams simultaneously, working to deadlines

  • Data analysis


  • Knowledge
  • Graduate in a relevant subject (or equivalent work experience in a strategic or transport role)

  • Understand the principles of Asset Management (Desirable)

  • Understand the challenges that asset intensive organisations face (transport and/or utility companies) (Desirable)

  • Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Certificate qualification or willingness to obtain


  • Experience
  • Experience of undertaking data analysis and presenting findings in a simple manner

  • Experience of interpreting different information sources and communicating them effectively

  • Experience in the asset management discipline and/or supporting the development of asset strategies, plans and prioritised work programmes (Desirable)
