Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Dynamic Construction and Maintenance Project Delivery Team at a time when Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) Council is undertaking a period of significant capital investment, across a range of unique and challenging projects.

We offer flexible working and are open minded in structuring working arrangements to suit the right candidates who will have experience managing construction projects from inception to completion.

Our team is currently working on projects with a combined value in excess of £130M, including primary school expansion projects, heritage building and structural conservation, waste & recycling depot redevelopment, significant public realm and regeneration schemes, and sustainable installations. This includes the retrofit of many of our 1100 properties to achieve net zero by 2030, including those in Bath's historic centre.

Working as part of the wider Sustainable Communities and Regeneration team, which also has responsibility for Planning, Heritage Services, Housing, Transport Strategy, Public Realm and Corporate Estate, you will need to be a team player with excellent reporting, people and project management skills., We a looking for Assistant Project Managers who are keen to grow their skills, however, must have a track record and experience in construction project management and delivery: Building Construction Management; Building Surveying; Contracts Management; MEP and Sustainability; Structural/Civils; Heritage and Conservation Construction project management; or Architectural, project delivery.

To be successful in this role you will need to have a proven track record in the delivery of construction projects. Our asset holdings are amongst the most diverse of any property portfolio. These range from the historic Roman Baths, extensive listed commercial properties, and our award-winning Keynsham Civic Centre. This is now a fantastic opportunity to be an integral part of the transformation of B&NES and the city of Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and UNESCO World Heritage Spa, around Britain's only thermal springs, within an area of outstanding natural beauty.

About You

The post holder will be responsible for procuring and managing resources, and monitoring programmes of work, contractors, and suppliers to complete projects within agreed costs and timescales. You will ensure that work is compliant with legislation and Council policies, processes, and constitutional rules. You will be confident to challenge the project brief, consultants and contractors alike to ensure the development of a design scope of works and managed construction project, which is able to meet the needs of the end user and life in use operation.

This varied role will require an individual who can demonstrate:

A track record of successfully managing and delivering capital and revenue construction or maintenance projects

Experience of writing and maintaining project documentation

An ability to identify and take action to manage project risks

An aptitude for producing professional quality reports and verbal presentations

Skills to ensure that all procurement is carried out in line with the Council's financial and procurement regulations and guidance

A sound understanding of construction methods, project management practices and principles including contractor management.
