Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Building Services Manager to join our Workplace team from our Wallingford site (Headquarters), where you'll be instrumental in driving innovation and shaping our vision for the future. This is a key role within UKCEH as it holds the responsibility of guaranteeing the safe and compliant operation of services across our national estate, while delivering exceptional service and helping to cultivate an ecosystem that supports our thriving academic community.
Working closely with our Head of Workplace, you will contribute to the development of strategy for executive function, providing operational insight from your field of expertise to support to the identification, management, and development of the estate. In addition, you will play a vital part in overseeing the local maintenance teams, leading, and supporting them with the identification and achievement of organisation and team objectives.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and supervise the maintenance teams in providing a high-class level of service throughout the organisation

  • Develop, manage and evaluate operational plans to support the achievement of strategic goals and organisational objectives

  • Liaise with key stakeholders across the four sites, providing advice and guidance

  • Manage and monitor projects and budgets to ensure efficient and effective delivery is achieved through governance strategies, documentation and contract management

  • Set, monitor, and manage the building and plant compliance within the Hard FM scope, ensuring that all buildings are compliant and safe.

  • Active management of Building Management Systems and review of energy demands within estate infrastructure to ensure efficiency and identify opportunities to reduce energy demands

  • Ensure the accuracy and high value of data collection and management information to ensure legal compliance is met across the estate

  • Keep up to date with external developments in the field to bring emerging thinking, partners and technologies to inform the growth of UKCEH

    Qualified to degree or HNC level in an Estates and Facilities discipline (or equivalent experience plus specialist knowledge acquired through courses and experience)

  • CIEH Health and Safety Certificate (or equivalent)

  • Trained in effective project management; ideally following PRINCE 2 methodologies

  • Proven skills and knowledge in the management of buildings and building services, and significant ability in formulating development plans and policies.

  • Experience of leading a team of specialists, each within their field of expertise

  • A track record of successfully managing projects within the building services arena

  • Able to represent UKCEH to senior stakeholders across academic, public, private and third sectors.

  • Knowledge around energy management, net zero requirements and Building Management Systems

  • Basic or intermediate level training in AutoCAD

  • Ideally an in-depth knowledge of the following: CDM 2015, L8 Control of Legionella and SFG20

  • Full driving licence

    Salary - £57,152 - £,60,650
