Full Job Description

Our Building Sciences team is growing rapidly, and we are delighted to be seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team of building physics specialists in our division. The team is all about applying the principles of physics to deliver masterplans, buildings and public realms that feel good, are resilient to climate change, operate efficiently and are kind to the environment. Our specialist team has a track record of collaborating closely with stake holders and design teams to deliver a wide variety of projects, both in terms of types and scale, from the iconic Royal College of Art Battersea South building, to devising net zero carbon strategies for the NHS and supporting Cities, Regional and National governments on the pathway to net zero carbon within the built environment.
The role includes the following duties:

  • Carry out thermal modelling of buildings at different scales to determine thermal comfort, visual comfort, energy performance, climate resilience, impacts on climate, carbon assessments etc to guide and assist the design team in implementing the most appropriate design solutions

  • Prepare qualitative assessments to provide early-stage design advice to the design team and stakeholder, supported by a thorough understanding of building physics behaviour of buildings

  • Prepare Whole Life Carbon assessments, including MEP systems WLC

  • Develop parametric modelling studies to suit the level of detail required to guide design decisions at building stock level

  • Assist senior teammates in delivering projects

  • Provide guidance to junior teammates on building physics deliverables

  • Prepare fee proposals, scopes and resource programmes

    Master's Degree in Building Physics related subjects such as Environmental Design Engineering, Modern Building Design, Sustainable building design etc

  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering, building architecture or similar

  • Advanced Excel skills including the use of VBA scripts to automate repetitive data processing functions and generate custom reports/data visualisation for different design criteria


  • Desired skills:
  • Competency in delivering projects using EDSL TAS or IES VE, PHPP and Grasshopper

  • Python coding skills

  • VBA or similar coding skills

  • LEED AP, WELL AP, LCEA or similar

  • ASHRAE BEMP, BECxP, CxA+BE, or similar

  • Competency in delivering projects using one or more of:


  • Revit or similar BIM related tool

  • EnergyPlus, jEPlus or similar

  • PHPP


  • Competency in delivering projects using one or more of:


  • SketchUP

  • Sefaira


  • Experience in:


  • InDesign
