Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen, at The University of Liverpool, for an experienced, dynamic, highly motivated, and innovative procurement professional to help it deliver and optimise the procurement agenda. We are looking for an experienced professional ready to take on the role of Category Manager. In this position, you will report directly to the Head of Category and play a crucial role in managing procurement processes, ensuring cost-effective purchasing, and nurturing strong vendor relationships.
In the role of Category Manager, you will be instrumental in driving the success of our University. Working closely with various teams including Finance, academic, technical, and professional services, you will contribute directly to our central procurement service's objectives. Your responsibilities will include leading procurement projects for goods, works, or services, developing category management strategies, and ensuring continuity of supply while delivering value for money. Additionally, you will serve as a business partner for individual faculty/departments, providing procurement advice, market analysis, and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and support sustainability initiatives.
The role presents an exciting opportunity to help grow collaboration and co-creation with internal and external stakeholders. The role will be embedded in Procurement, but will have an institution-wide remit and will link directly with University central teams supporting knowledge exchange, engagement and partnership development. This is a dynamic role with a mix of proactive and reactive tasks, as well as the opportunity to work independently and develop your own portfolio of activities. We are looking for a skilled communicator, able to engage and enthuse in equal measure and who can bring knowledge of Procurement practices, category management approaches, innovation as well as a successful track record of delivering financial efficiencies. The role is based at the University campus on a hybrid basis.
You should have or be working towards a MCIPS qualification.
