Full Job Description

The Collections department helps business energy customers in financial difficulty to create sustainable payment solutions to suit both the customer and the company. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and manage the Team Leaders of collections advisors and debt recovery partners who are undertake all aspects of collection activity.

You will deliver strategic business objectives through effective management of the collection team by providing clear direction, inspiring, developing and coaching them to meet and exceed targets by taking ownership and supporting continuous improvement.

How you will contribute.

  • Drive best practice and continual improvement. Develop, maintain, and monitor departmental communications and procedures, making recommendations for improvements, efficiency, and automation

  • Ensure practices comply with legislative, regulatory and license governance. Implement effective processes for Collection Advisors to interact with customers via telephone, email, live chat, or instant message

  • Remaining informed of any legislative procedural changes regarding debt collection

  • Provide constructive feedback, coaching and support to the Team Leaders

  • Cascade strategic business and departmental objectives, monitoring and analysing performance, implementing measures to improve productivity and success rates

  • Manage short to medium term resource and succession plans to proactively manage the activities of the department

  • Analysis of performance statistics to provide the collections department with overview of the collection strategy performance. For example, cashflow forecasting, productivity and performance of internal teams and external partners and bad debt provision

  • Manage the team to ensure each step of the collection strategy is delivered to the required standard including escalation of accounts to debt recovery partners or solicitors

  • Report weekly and monthly department progress to Head of Collections with an action plan for proposed resolution when targets are not being achieved (Including presentations)

  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders and third parties to gather information to resolve issues and handle complex customer complaints or enquiries

    Proven experience in collections, with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role

  • Proven leadership abilities, including the capacity to inspire, motivate, and manage Team Leaders/ Collections Advisors

  • Proficiency in data analysis, including the ability to problem solve and analyse collection data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize the collections process

  • In-depth understanding of debt collection laws, regulations, and industry best practices, with the ability to ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws

  • Effective time management skills

  • Ability to organise and prioritise, set priorities and multi-task
