Full Job Description

  • The Business Acceptance Unit (BAU) forms part of the Firm's OGC Directorate. The role reports to the BAU Conflicts Manager and involves the analysis of conflict and confidential information issues in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority ('SRA') Code of Conduct 2019.

  • As an Advisor in the Conflicts Team, you will ensure that the Firm complies with its regulatory obligations by processing and analysing conflict searches in relation to the Firm's inbound client and matter instructions, implementing and maintaining Information Barriers and Insider Lists, and dealing with general client and matter inception queries and engagement letter maintenance.

  • You will also provide support and guidance to BAU Conflicts Assistants, and work closely with other Advisors, the BAU Conflicts Manager, OGC Lawyers (OGC Conflicts) to resolve conflict and confidential information issues.


  • THE TEAM

  • The Business Acceptance Unit (BAU) forms part of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) Directorate and is based across the Firm's Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dubai offices.

  • The team delivers high quality advice/guidance to the Firm across all aspects of legal and commerical conflicts of interest, and associated risk relevant work, providing support to the OGC team with complex conflicts / high risk / reputational issues.

  • With a track record of success for providing internal progression, this role offers the opportunity to continuously learn, adapt, and explore various areas of Risk and Compliance, in a stimulating environment fostering individual growth and development., Processing and filtering conflict search results, conducting legal and commercial analysis of potential conflict and confidentiality issues. Reporting key issues to partners, fee earners or escalating to the OGC team.

  • Liaising with partners and fee earners to discuss complex and multifaceted instructions, undertaking thorough research and analysis on all aspects relating to the Firm's client and matter base.

  • Pro-actively engage with partners, fee earners and OGC to improve working practices and service levels with the support of the BAU Conflicts Manager.

  • Analysing confidential records to assess relevance and supporting OGC in referrals to the Conflicts Committee / Conflicts Partner.

  • Training and mentoring of BAU Conflicts Assistants, supporting the BAU Conflicts Manager in developing the team's legal and commercial analysis in accordance with paragraph 6.1-6.5 of the SRA.

  • Reviewing existing processes and procedures for effectiveness, recommending and implementing change.

  • Conducting quality assurance audits of conflict search results and providing comprehensive feedback.

  • Managing price sensitive information controls and other highly confidential information issues, including the maintenance of the Firm's Dealing Stop List and processing share dealing requests.

  • Drafting material and delivering training sessions for partners, fee earners and PAs.

  • Coaching and mentoring of BAU Conflicts Assistances, leading team meetings to discuss workload, training & development and Conflicts resolution.

  • Monitoring of the team's workload ensuring work is prioritised in accordance with service level standards.

  • Draft, review and update new and existing BAU procedures in accordance with regulatory changes and Firm policy under the supervision of the BAU Conflicts Manager and OGC team.

  • Compiling Management Information ('MI') statistics for stakeholders.

    Minimum two years' experience in a law firm conflicts role. Strong and demonstrable conflicts analytical skills in filtering and analysis work with an ability to deal with high volumes of information. Understanding complex areas of law and applying relevant legal and commercial knowledge to make judgements in relation to inbound and existing client and matter work.

  • Comprehensive knowledge to interpet and ability to apply the SRA Code of Conduct 2019 (specifically paragraph 6.1-6.5) and Market Abuse Regulations (MAR).

  • Confidence to liaise with partners and other stakeholders to provide advice on legal and commercial issues, regulations and firm policy.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail with an ability to work under pressure whilst managing competing deadlines as well as delegating work to other team members.

  • Experience in motivating, coaching, mentoring and providing feedback to team members.

  • Initiative, prioritising and promptly responding to requests/queries, addressing concerns, anticipating additional needs..

  • A proven track record of making informed decisions based on sound judgment, applying a risk-based approach, ensuring the Firm remains compliant with applicable regulations.

  • Delivering results and providing proactive solutions to difficult issues.

  • Project management skills or experience of working on project related activities.

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Software (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) previous experience of using Intapp is preferable.
