Full Job Description

To provide an efficient and courteous service to all patients, whilst working within the Standard Operating Procedures as set out by the Practice.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Dispensing NHS prescriptions for dispensing patients and temporary residents, as well as private prescriptions to all patients registered at the Practice, as required by the Partners. Handling cash and checking exemption certificates in relation to this and advising patients on the use/compliance of drugs as necessary.

2. Providing a repeat prescription service which includes taking requests by telephone, email, SystmOne and repeat slips.

3. Adding to and/or amending patient's SystmOne medication record, as advised by the doctors e.g., discharge and hospital letters.

4. Ensuring an efficient service is maintained between Bubwith and Holme on Spalding Moor surgeries with relation to the collection of prescription requests and delivery of medication/prescriptions.

5. Maintaining adequate stock levels of drugs within the dispensary, ordering as required (paying attention to costing) and checking all invoices against stock received. Rotating stock to ensure short-dated lines are used first. Date checking stock every three months.

6. Keeping up to date with drug changes and advancements, sharing useful information with the dispensary and clinical teams.

7. Processing MDS blister packs for those patients in need.

8. Maintaining up to date records of Controlled Drugs. Carrying out a weekly CD stock balance check (on a rota basis with the other Bubwith dispensers).

9. Ensuring prescriptions are endorsed correctly, overleaf completed by patient, counted, recorded and filed ready to be sent to the PPA for reimbursement at the end of each month.

10. Maintaining good communications with other members of the Practice to maximise benefits to patients.

11. Working in accordance with the Dispensary SOPs at all times.

12. Providing cover for holidays, sickness and extended hours to ensure continuation of the dispensing service at all of the dispensing sites within the Practice.

13. Attending monthly dispensary meetings whenever possible. Ensuring that Significant Events and Near Misses are reported and made available to be discussed at the meetings.

14. Taking part in an annual Performance and Development review as required by the Practice.

15. Carrying out a minimum of four different forms of training per year and 60 DRUMs in order to comply with the requirements of the DSQS.

16. Keeping the dispensary clean, tidy and secure in order to run efficiently.

This post is for 24 hours per week, working: Monday 8.30 a.m. - 6.00 p.m., Wednesday 8.30 a.m. - 2.30 p.m. and Friday 8.30 a.m. - 6.00 p.m. Holiday/sickness cover is also required.

Starting salary is £12.62 per hour with annual increments up to £14.38 per hour. We also offer five weeks annual leave, the NHS Pension Scheme and free access to the Simply Health Scheme.
