Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, committed and highly organised individual to organise and deliver exhibitions at the Hatton Gallery, which is managed by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM) on behalf of Newcastle University. You will deliver a varied and challenging programme of engaging exhibitions and events.

Working within the historic context of the Hatton Gallery, one of the oldest university art galleries in the country, you will have a commitment to working with artists and with university staff and students to facilitate exciting exhibitions and events. With a proven interest in art/history of art, museum studies or another relevant subject, you will have experience of working in galleries and/or museums and of delivering major temporary exhibitions. You will also have experience of working with museum collections and stores and be willing to develop knowledge of the Hatton's collection and archive as a context for the gallery's exhibition programme and public offer.

You will be an effective team worker with the confidence and ability to work closely with colleagues in regional and national museums and with contractors to ensure delivery of a high-quality programme. It is essential that the post holder has the ability to work on their own initiative, is self-motivated, a good communicator and very well organised. The Hatton Gallery is uniquely situated within Newcastle University's Fine Art department, and the post holder will be expected to develop strong working relationships within both the university and the museum service.

This post is based at the Hatton Gallery, but the post holder will also need to spend time at other TWAM venues, including the Laing Art Gallery. The post is delivery-focused but there will be some opportunities to gain experience of developing and curating exhibitions with the support of TWAM's Art Galleries team.

We are strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and a range of other recruitment checks.
