Full Job Description

You will support the delivery of a range of activities aiming to create healthier environments around schools, which may include active travel, air quality, the food and drink environment, physical activity, community safety, access to green spaces, and to restrict tobacco and harmful advertising.
The role will have an emphasis on:

  • Developing and delivering Schools Superzones action plan with partners, including other parts of the councils, schools, residents and communities, local NHS partners, and the voluntary sector.

  • Leading engagement with and communications to the schools and communities.


  • The aim of School Superzones is to promote and protect children's health and enable healthy behaviours by using local authority powers and partnership working to implement place-based actions that can create healthier environments around schools., This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the JD/Person Specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages

  • Relevant professional experience managing health promotion or community development projects or programmes

  • Experience of working in partnership effectively with internal and external stakeholders to plan and deliver projects

  • Experience working with diverse communities and meeting their needs

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal and influencing skills

  • Knowledge of inequalities in health and how this can impact communities

  • Understanding of evaluating initiatives and presenting outcomes, data, and reports in different formats to a wide range of audiences

  • Pro-active, resilient, self-motivated and innovative, as well as being flexible and adaptable in a sometimes rapidly changing environment
