Full Job Description

Are you a data enthusiast with a passion for performance and intelligence? Do you have the skills and experience to provide comprehensive, accurate and timely analysis to drive decision making and provide insight? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Performance and Intelligence team as an Information Analyst.

As an Information Analyst, you will be responsible for producing regular and ad-hoc reports, supporting the development of data reporting in Business Intelligence tools (particularly Microsoft Power BI) and completing statutory returns and performance indicator reporting. You will also provide a wide range of high-level administrative support to the team, including data entry, data matching, compiling reports and managing communications with other teams across the Council.

You will work closely with operational staff and senior managers across the department and the local authority, as well as external partners and regulators, to ensure that data sets are properly maintained and information is collected and disseminated in line with national specifications and local needs. You will also attend meetings and present key performance information, help to identify areas of improvement and drive forward the need for change.
Key tasks for this the role include:

  • To design and produce and review comprehensive reports that support the development and improvement of performance within the authority.

  • To collate and maintain a portfolio of reports reviewing statutory requirements to ensure that the local authority meets its statutory obligations.

  • To prepare and present key performance information for Departmental Management Teams and relevant partnerships.

  • To support the development, recording and monitoring of information systems ensuring data quality is high and that recording is compliant with external regulatory requirements.

  • To submit accurate and timely data submissions to external regulators by completing statutory returns.

  • To work across local authority directorates and identify new and improved ways of measuring outcomes.

  • To liaise with third party data providers to ensure that all information is accurately collected, recorded, analysed and disseminated as required by recognised processes or legislative or policy demands.

  • To conduct statistical analysis, scrutinising results, drawing comparisons and identifying trends.

  • To ensure all information is shared and stored securely in line with Information Governance policies and procedures.

  • About You
    To be successful in this role, you will need to have

  • Knowledge and understanding of information systems and databases, built up over a number of years' training and experience or a formal IT or Data Science qualification.

  • Knowledge and experience in Excel to an advanced level including high experience in text and number formulas and able to read and communicate formulas fluently.

  • Ability to and enthusiasm for creating dashboards in Power BI.

  • Expert in Excel with the ability to use business intelligence tools to analyse and produce engaging materials.

  • Microsoft products (Access, Excel, Powerpoint, Word) and media to produce reports, dashboards, presentations and datasets.

  • The ability to undertake statistical analysis, present data effectively and provide commentaries for senior managers.

  • Good communication and diplomacy skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and establish effective relationships with operational staff and managers.

  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise time and work to strict deadlines.

  • A "can do" attitude, with an interest in learning new skills and developing systems. A problem solver that can use logic and initiative to find solutions.

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, or related field, or willingness to study to achieve this level. We are enthusiastic about Degree Apprenticeships and if you don't yet have a degree in a relevant subject we will support you to achieve this., Disability Confident
