As an Information Officer, you will oversee Northern's data flow to meet regulatory and stakeholder requirements, while supporting the team in fostering strong relationships with Transport for the North (TfN) and Rail North Partnership (RNP). About the role:
You'll be responsible for managing the flow and reporting of various data sources across the Rail Industry, such as internal and external stakeholder data requests, including Rail North Partnership (RNP), Department of Transport (DfT) and Transport for the North (TfN). You'll also be drafting responses for Northern for Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
The team offers an opportunity to learn about the Rail Industry, as well as opportunities across Regulatory Compliance, Stakeholder Management and Data Management.
You'll be reporting in the Senior Compliance Manager and working across various areas of the business as well as external stakeholders. There will be some travel across the Northern network, but the team works flexibly.

If this sounds like your thing, we'd love to hear from you., This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:

  • Reporting and maintaining the business's compliance tracker, whilst producing reporting for both external and internal requirememnts

  • Logging and maintaining records of requests and responses, ensuring full audit trail and timely dispatch within statutory limits. Coordinating exemption application reviews.

  • Leading contact with external stakeholders, specifically GBRTT, TfN and RNP for information/data requests to Northern

  • Representing the Compliance team in the Northern Business Insights Community, becoming proficient in the use of Tableau to interpret and report business data to stakeholders

  • Responding to information requests from receipt to completion, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, minimising reputational risk.

  • Assisting with Client relationship management, aligning with RNP's Contract Support Officer in the management of Northern/RNP meeting minutes and action tracking.

    You will bring expertise in producing and communicating insightful reports for both internal and external stakeholders. Your strong political acumen and deep understanding of the regulatory environment will enable you to navigate complex landscapes effectively.


  • We're also looking for the following:
  • High level of IT literacy, particularly with MS Excel

  • Excellent attention to detail and record keeping

  • Ability to be flexible, work under pressure and to tight deadlines

  • Good experience of reporting such as monitoring and reporting on large scale complex projects and/or tasks

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
