Joining the expanding geoscience team located in the UK, the Junior Geoscience Data Analyst will contribute significantly to the development of innovative techniques and tools for analysing data using 1D, 2D, and 3D, data collected directly from Geotek multi-sensor instruments. This role requires leveraging expertise in geoscience and mathematical skills to handle data extraction, transformation, loading, manipulation, exploration, analysis, reporting, and visualisation for operational projects. Collaborating closely with Geotek's Research and Development and Software teams, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in implementing novel techniques and tools.,

  • Assisting in acquiring, organising, pre-processing and manipulation of 1D, 2D and 3D datasets from geological cores/materials using Geotek X-ray CT, Multi-Sensor Core Logger (MSCL-S), BoxScan and Hyperspectral imaging systems.


  • Applying basic statistical and mathematical techniques to analyse data, identifying patterns, trends, and anomalies relevant to the field of geoscience.


  • Implementing and adapting existing data analysis techniques to project datasets.


  • Collaborating with Senior Geoscience Data Analyst, Geotek's research and development and software teams to develop and implement new tools, data analytical techniques, and workflows.


  • Implementing basic quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data, and participating in validation processes to verify the quality of acquired data.


  • Specific level of duties and responsibilities will be set in accordance with the individuals specific experience and interests.

    As part of a compact team, this role is well-suited for individuals with between 1 and 3 years of experience or equivalent qualifications in geoscience, mathematics, data science, computer science, and machine learning for example. The Junior Geoscience Data Analyst will support the Senior Geoscience Data Analyst in developing innovative workflows and technologies, aiming to set Geotek apart and deliver more insightful results to our customers in the field., Degree level qualifications in either geoscience, computer science, data science, mathematics or related field, and should have experience of the geoscience domain.


  • Basic understanding of mathematical, statistical and machine learning data analysis techniques.


  • Understanding of geoscience principles, geological processes, and familiarity with relevant geospatial data.


  • Experience working with 'big data' in sectors related to geoscience, such as oil and gas, mineral exploration, or academic research, as well as data processes, relevant software's and databases.


  • Ability to apply problem-solving skills, with focus on finding solutions on extracting data from multi-variant datasets.


  • Knowledge and practical experience of programming languages commonly used in data analysis, such as Python, R, or MATLAB.


  • Practical experience in using visualisation tools and techniques to communicate complex geoscientific information effectively.


  • Good interpersonal, presentation, organisational skills.


  • Willingness to learn and deliver to tight deadlines.


  • Effective communication skills, and ability to work as part of a small team.


  • Previous experience of working with Geotek equipment could be an advantage but is not essential.


  • Must be able to speak and write English fluently.


  • Must be able and willing to commute to Daventry, UK where the role will be based.
