What you do as a Lead Mechanical Engineer

As Lead Mechanical Engineer you must prove yourself to some of the most demanding customers in the world and work pro-actively with our colleagues across the globe. Beyond the standard features of a building, our MCF projects require specific and advanced knowledge and skills. What our clients have in common, is the need for a proactive Lead Mechanical Engineer. As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will manage and deliver the electrical work packages in multiple concurrent projects, either in the UK or internationally. Your main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following

  • Manage and deliver the mechanical work packages in multiple concurrent projects, either in the UK or internationally;

  • Identify the scope, design and management objectives and deliver project documentation, ensuring the quality, level of detail, and flow of information required for;

  • Client review and approval, tender documentation to contractors and main equipment vendors, technical support documents during construction and regulatory authorities;

  • Plan, organise, manage, and where appropriate create work packages to include technical specifications, reports, calculations, and drawings/models appropriate to the relevant level of detail (Ranging from RIBA 1 through to RIBA 4);

  • Implement your knowledge of workability, mountability, accessibility, and maintainability into the model to ensure that the design building can be constructed, maintained, and functional;

  • Advise clients regarding Mechanical systems/concepts/requirements available to meet their requirements and comply with safety codes;

  • Experience in development concepts and designs of the following in compliance with current wiring regulations and BS/EN standards, relevant codes, and client specific requirements;

  • Critical Cooling Infrastructure - Cooling Generation topologies, redundancy requirements, Cooling Calculations;

  • CFD Studies, PUE calculations, Fuel storage calculations;

  • Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Systems (HVAC);

  • Local Extract Ventilation Systems (LEV);

  • Low Temperature Hot Water Systems (LTHW);

  • Non-Critical cooling and heating solutions;

  • Public Health systems - Domestic Hot and Cold Water, sewage, drainage, condensate, etc;

  • Fuel systems;

  • Leak detection and trace heating systems;

  • Fire Protection Systems;

  • Building Management Systems;

  • Scope shall include leading energy in-use compliance and thermal analysis as required to comply with local mandatory standards;

  • Engage in the production of digital design deliverables and the ongoing adoption of digital ways of working;

  • Assist the project manager in the preparation / review of project costs, risk assessments and progress monitoring;

  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships ensuring continuous technical professional development;

  • Review contractor pre-qualifications and prepared tender evaluation summaries for tender reviews;

  • Lead Tender processes and evaluate proposals and recommendations to the client regarding vendor selection, or in some cases even purchase equipment for and on behalf of the client;

  • Communicate status of projects to internal directors and external stakeholders (clients) on an ad-hoc and formal basis;

  • Share knowledge and expertise, support and develop junior engineers;

  • Lead tenders and bids and support Business Development by developing own client network.

    What you bring

    You are an entrepreneurial, result oriented, proactive individual with a positive flexible and problem-solving attitude.

    Besides that, you have:
  • Technical bachelor and/or master degree (Electrical);

  • At least 5-10 years relevant working experience in Data Centres;

  • Ability to write specifications for electrical equipment, devices, and materials

  • Good project management skills, to lead a team of electrical engineers internationally. Understanding design priorities,

  • design processes and knowing how and when to lead the client and the design team members towards the final product

  • Experience with Revit and integrated design;

  • You have excellent communication skills towards colleagues and clients;

  • Good understanding of the sector specific daily (operational) business of our clients;

  • Ability to perform best in a multidisciplinary team often with international colleagues;

  • Good command of the English language.
