Full Job Description

In this exciting new role you will be responsible for undertaking corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing, complex fault finding and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets.

This role is working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern days and nights. The first 3 months training will be based at either Newton Aycliffe or Doncaster working a days shift.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables :

  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment

  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental & quality practices in the workplace

  • Prepare for and undertake planned and unplanned maintenance activities

  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques

  • Ability to download, review and action data gathered from the rolling stock systems such as Integrale, trust, Genius, Train system diagnostic tools - knowledge and practical experience in the use of OEM monitoring and fault analysis software

  • Ability to read and extract information from traction and rolling stock drawings and specifications

  • Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of traction and rolling stock components

  • Modify or manufacture traction and rolling stock components by material removal using hand tools

  • Assemble traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques

  • Install new traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques

  • Identify, assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on Hitachi rolling stock assets.

  • Identify repeat defects on Hitachi rolling stock assets and suggest / carry out repairs

  • Create technical scopes of work for fault rectification by other members of staff

  • Support the S&M Quality Team and Engineering with regards reliability improvements to rolling stock assets

  • To be familiar with ECM (Entity in Charge of Maintenance) requirements and their applicability to Hitachi Rail Limited and the responsibilities within the role

  • Attend and provide technical support with failures in service when on duty

  • Provide operational support to users of Hitachi rolling stock assets

  • Keep SAP record system up to date with clear and concise information of work carried out.

  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships

  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi's new business demands as required.

    HNC or served apprenticeship in either mechanical / electrical engineering disciplines to NVQ Level 3,

  • Able to analyse train Bourne technical faults and effect appropriate repairs

  • Able to analyse train system downloads and fault logs in order to determine failure modes and produce fault finding and rectification guides

  • Train system diagnostic tools - knowledge and practical experience in the use of OEM monitoring and fault analysis software

  • Valid UK Driving Licence
