Locum Consultant General Surgeon, Specialist interest in Upper GI

We are looking to recruit a locum consultant in general surgery, with a subspecialty interest in upper gastrointestinal surgery. This is a fixed term post for 12 months. The successful candidate will be joining a Health Board wide compliment of 19 Consultants, 13 substantive and 6 NHS locum consultants. This team is responsible for the provision of General Surgical services with specialty/special interests in breast, colorectal, upper Gastrointestinal and Endoscopy., Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:- To ensure the provision and delivery of a quality and safe clinical service. To provide effective leadership to all junior staff engaged in the specialty. To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate. To undertake all work in accordance with the health board's procedures and operating policies. To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the health board's service plans. To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Health board. Core clinical expertise in General Surgery Endoscopy and Laparoscopic Upper GI Surgery. Leadership and team building skills as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Delivering care in the community alongside primary health care and social care teams. You are expected to maintain your professional development for revalidation. A
teaching and training role for medical undergraduates and postgraduates. Educational Supervisor role to Junior and SAS Level medical staff. To undertake regular multidisciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence based. Your job plan with consist of 10 sessions and will include Theatre, Endoscopy, Outpatients, Administration, SPA and Teaching between Glangwili and Prince Philip Hospitals. 2 sessions are allocated to covering the General Surgery on call 1 in 8 rota at Glangwili Hospital.
