Full Job Description

The successful candidate will be providing mechanical engineering support to trials and assembly engineers in existing and new facilities, ensuring the programme is delivered and operated within Systems Engineering methods including Environmental, Safety, Health & Quality tools and processes are used to best effect.
What will you be accountable for?

  • Assist the delivery of engineering solutions that meet safety and performance requirements.

  • Comply with the design intent across the full engineering lifecycle.

  • Plan and execute basic tasks in order to deliver agreed objectives to time, requirements, quality and cost.

  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality.

  • Additional accountabilities for this job profile may be defined and appointed through the Chief Engineer Management Arrangements, with appointees contained within the Company Design Authorities and Technical Authorities listing, as held in the company management system.


  • What will you be responsible for?
  • Assist delivery of Mechanical Engineering solutions in relation to defined requirements, across the full engineering lifecycle, to a high standard.

  • Carrying out Assembly/Disassembly of trial units in accordance with trial specifications.

  • Carrying out machining tasks to drawing and quality requirements using Milling machines, Lathes and hand tools

  • Support Team Leader and Senior Engineers to deliver the programme of work.

  • Take ownership of own training and development, agreed objectives and project deliverables.

  • Develop engineering skills and experience relevant to engineering domain.

  • Support scoping and planning activities as required.

  • Identify and support opportunities for cost savings, efficiency, and business improvement.

  • Maintenance and breakdowns through the AMS system

  • Support configuration control, scheduling of work and de-confliction of tasks

  • Work with the operations team to implement and ensure compliance with the safe operating envelope.

  • Being accountable for the escalation of significant issues to the operations management

    ONC / HNC / HND/ NVQ3 / NVQ4 level or equivalent in a STEM vocational qualification supported by practical experience

  • Awareness of technical assessments of existing products

  • Awareness of the development, testing and evaluation of theoretical designs

  • Awareness of estimated budget and scope of project

  • Experience of working in a mechanical engineering environment

  • Experience of workshop operations is essential

  • Understanding of engineering drawings

  • Proven track record of delivering on time and to cost and quality

  • Good working knowledge of IT software systems, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc, Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.

The role is to deliver Mechanical Engineering in support to AWE Programmes such as Assembly/Disassembly of complex trial units both onsite and offsite, Manufacturing components & tooling using machine tools and carrying out maintenance activities.
