Full Job Description

We have an excellent opportunity for a successful candidate to join our dynamic team of Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioners on a permanent basis. Currently a team of 13, we work autonomously alongside our consultant colleagues in an enhanced role performing clinical assessment of in-patients, leading on development, and delivering high standards of nursing and medical care to our trauma and elective patients on the wards. This is an exciting and progressive role which is continuously adapting to meet and enhance the care provided to our patients; ensuring local and national targets are met and driving patient flow through the hospital.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, adaptable, and ambitious. They need to be clinically confident with an interest in orthopaedics and have higher level abilities to fulfil the requirements of the post. The team currently comprises of band 6 and band 7 practitioners reporting to the Lead Orthopaedic Practitioner working alongside Specialist Pharmacists and Surgical Care Practitioners and together form the wider surgical care team.
This post is available as a band 6 or band 7 dependent on experience, please see job descriptions and person specifications for further details. Successful applicants for Band 6 level are supported to complete the MSc in Advanced Practice including Non-Medical Prescribing.
Please contact Lead Orthopaedic Practitioner, Yvonne Walker for an informal discussion and/or departmental visit., As a Band 7 Practitioner you would be expected undertake the following, band 6 practitioners will be supported in their learning and development with the aim of achieving this level.
+ To Work at an enhanced level as an independent nurse practitioner under the supervision of senior medical and surgical colleagues.
+ To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of professional activity.
+ To work autonomously using expert clinical skills extended beyond the scope of nursing to provide assessment, diagnosis treatment and discharge of patients within the specialty.
+ To provide highly specialist expertise and knowledge in the management of patients within the relevant service in collaboration with other health care colleagues.
+ To support and advise junior medical staff, nurses and others in respect of patient care
+ To be pivotal in review and development of the service, and to reflect the needs of the patient group.
+ To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Dedication, Integrity and Excellence.
+ Develop, implement and evaluate care packages for Orthopaedic patients in inpatient, outpatient and pre-operative assessment settings.
Covering weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis, Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

DBS

If you are a new employee or registering with the Staff Bank you will need to meet the cost of this unless your salary is less than point 9 of Afc
NHS Service

UK Registration
You will need to have current UK professional registration where this is a requirement of the role.
