Full Job Description

You will provide a customer focussed people advice service, providing advice, coaching and support for managers regarding employment relations matters and specialised people services, including grievances, employment tribunals, restructures, Transfer of Undertakings of Employment (TUPE), through the employment lifecycle and in line with Group People Policies and frameworks.

About you

We are looking for someone with.

  • Provide employment relations advice, support and coaching to colleagues across the Group in relation to the employee lifecycle and in line with the People Services operating model, ensuring self-service is maximised by colleagues.


  • Provide support and expertise to managers with a range of people issues, providing coaching and training as required to ensure managers have the appropriate knowledge and skills to deal with people issues in line with the Group People Strategy and People Services model.


  • Support the ER and Policy Consultant with the development of Group People Policies, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, adherence to best practice and business needs are met, Provide employment relations advice, support and coaching to colleagues across the Group in relation to the employee lifecycle and in line with the People Services operating model, ensuring self-service is maximised by colleagues.


  • Provide support and expertise to managers with a range of people issues, providing coaching and training as required to ensure managers have the appropriate knowledge and skills to deal with people issues in line with the Group People Strategy and People Services model.


  • Support the ER and Policy Consultant with the development of Group People Policies, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, adherence to best practice and business needs are met.


  • Attend hearings and consultation meetings for ongoing people issues as required, providing coaching to managers to build leadership capability to deal with future people issues.


  • Manage escalated policy queries and issues, collaborating with the People Advice Manager and ER and Policy Consultant to ensure the provision of expertise and support to complex, high profile and high risk people issues.


  • Support the People Partners with complex and high profile people change initiatives across the Group e.g. Organisational Design and TUPE transfers, ensuring collaboration between business leaders, People Services and Trade Unions to ensure effective implementation.


  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and change projects to enhance service performance and customer satisfaction, ensuring your deliverables meet service delivery plans.


  • Maintain all collateral relating to people advice, including procedure and toolkits, ensuring alignment to the overall People Strategy and business needs.


  • Accurately record all calls and queries to enable on-going management, reporting and tracking of queries, including the scanning of documents to employee records.


  • Monitor and maintain the integrity and quality of data input, call recording, case management and storage of documents, resolving and communicating any data quality improvements to achieve compliance standards.


  • Plan and prioritise work, check own work and that of others as required for completeness and accuracy.


  • Provide accurate and timely people metrics to key stakeholders as required for review at regular performance meetings and to input into decision making as required.


  • Maintain knowledge of employee relations regulatory, legal and systems to deliver competence in role and 'best-fit' solutions. Support, guide and monitor compliance with those requirements within the People Advice team and business.


  • Manage internal and external stakeholders effectively, building constructive working relationships to effectively deliver the Group's People Strategy.


  • Respond flexibly to any necessary changes in work priorities and undertake other duties when required to support the effective operation of the service.


  • Ensure that all information security requirements, including data protection, are met in accordance with the Group's policy, procedures and statutory requirements.


  • Ensure that health and safety requirements are met in accordance with the Group's policy, procedures and statutory requirements.

    Proven track record of providing HR advice within a large, complex and unionised organisation.


  • CIPD qualified, or equivalent.


  • In depth knowledge of employment law and ACAS guidelines relating to the entire employee lifecycle.


  • Experience of dealing with complex and high profile people issues including collating evidence for Employment Tribunals.


  • Proven track record of interpreting HR policy and applying to issues raised.


  • Ability to work with ambiguity.


  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure delivering to strict deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.


  • Results driven with strong analytical skills, including the ability to critically analyse complex information, and experience of providing meaningful management information.


  • Customer focused with excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the confidence to interact with employees at all levels.


  • Ability to show initiative and propose solutions to issues identified.


  • Commercially aware and results focused with the ability to take ownership of tasks.


  • Excellent team player who can work flexibly to meet business requirements.


  • Experience of working on HR related systems together with strong MS Office skills
