Full Job Description

We are looking for a Volunteer Press Officer/PR Specialist who can dedicate 2-3 hours a week to help elevate our presence in the media landscape. This role is ideal for individuals looking to utilise their skills in PR and media relations for a good cause. This is a flexible, remote role that can be fitted around your other commitments.,

  • Develop a targeted media contact list tailored to Action Syria's focus areas.

  • Draft and distribute press releases to highlight our latest projects, events, or achievements.

  • Work with our Strategic Marketing and Communications Manager to develop a press strategy, including schedule for optimum number of press releases.

  • Engage with and respond to media inquiries as they arise, passing any requests to our communications team.

  • Monitor media coverage related to our field and share relevant findings with our team.

  • Provide recommendations for potential story ideas or public relations opportunities.

  • Assist in cultivating long-term relationships with key media personnel and outlets., Hands Up is now Action Syria. We are a small and innovative charity that funds health and education programmes in Syria and neighbouring countries. We work with local partners to make sure Syrian communities have the medical care and education they need, every day and when emergencies strike. We recently underwent a re-brand and are now looking at growing our supporter base and reach.

    Campaigning

  • Copywriting / Journalism

  • Public relations, Experience in writing press releases, previous experience working on humanitarian-related issues is a plus.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to independently research and identify media outlets and contacts.

  • A keen interest in charities and a passion for humanitarian causes.

  • Organised, with an ability to prioritise time-sensitive assignments.

  • Experience working with charities in humanitarian, refugee-focussed or Middle East-focussed charities is a significant advantage.
