Full Job Description

Are you an experienced computational biologist driven by the challenge of enhancing crop resilience and productivity? Join us at Rothamsted Research as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist and contribute to our strategic programme, "Delivering Sustainable Wheat"., With access to high-performance computing(HPC) and advanced IT facilities, your work will empower researchers globally, fostering breakthroughs in genomics and genetics. You will work alongside a diverse team of bioinformaticians, biologists, and software engineers, driving innovative solutions in crop health and plant science., Lead the assembly, annotation, and pan-genomic analysis of wheat and various filamentous pathogens to address critical questions in crop health.

Perform sophisticated genome and transcriptome analysis, focusing on the interactions between globally significant fungal pathogens and wheat.

Develop and enhance our bioinformatics infrastructure to support robust and scalable research applications.

Provide expert training and mentorship to junior bioinformaticians, PhD students, and early career scientists, promoting a culture of excellence and collaboration.

Serve as deputy to the Head of Bioinformatics, aiding in strategic planning and team management.

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, or a closely related field.

  • Proven expertise in genome assembly, annotation, and pan-genomics, as well as transcriptome analysis of complex experiments.

  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and scripting with strong skills in R, Python, and Bash.

  • A robust publication record in genomics or closely related fields.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in grant writing, coupled with excellent communication skills.
