Full Job Description

The post is permanent, full-time working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday and is Manchester office-based. Job share/other flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate. Any such preferences are to be discussed further at interview. The company offers hybrid working (two days per week minimum in the office, with three days working at home). The exact allocation of office-based days is decided by the appointee's manager, although flexibility remains our policy and approach.

The role will also involve national and occasional international travel, potentially including working in customer offices.

Please note that sponsorship under the UK government's skilled worker sponsorship scheme is not available.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview and assessment at the Manchester office on a date between 12 and 14 June 2024. The assessment will be a presentation on a topic related to the role, to be notified in the interview invitation.

The AlphaPlus training manager will take a leading role across AlphaPlus projects where there is a training element. They will be a self-starter with solid experience in the development, delivery and management of training programmes. They will work with various actors in education across the UK (including colleges, schools and teachers, trainers and senior leaders; local authority staff; government including devolved governments, and related agencies; and AlphaPlus colleagues) to ensure that a range of training materials, and plans are developed and then delivered. They will also take a lead role in supporting the learning and development of AlphaPlus employees to meet changing business needs.

Eligible candidates will have:

  • A successful track record working in a similar role

  • Expert knowledge of internal employee skills gap analysis and development/implementation of learning solutions

  • Project management skills / qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of the education sector in the UK and/or internationally

  • Experience in developing and implementing internal L&D strategies and policies including management of training budgets


  • The following would be beneficial:
  • Line-management experience

  • Experience as a teacher

  • Experience as a trainer within the education sector

  • Training qualification from a recognised provider

  • Expert knowledge of the education sector in the UK and/or internationally

  • Understanding of dealing with external training providers including universities, apprenticeships and utilising the Apprenticeship Levy

  • As part of our wider work, AlphaPlus regularly develops and delivers training for, or on behalf of, a variety of clients. Training materials may be developed by AlphaPlus staff or, more often, by subcontractors (AlphaPlus maintains a database of associates whom we draw upon to meet the needs of individual projects).
